I like taking a serving of Super Foods on a daily basis to get a good dose of antioxidants. The particular kind I take – the Powerhouse formula – has good stuff like Organic Spirulina, Calcium, Maca, Oat Bran Concentrate, Whey Protein, Calcium Pyruvate, Glutamine Peptide, Creatine Monohydrate, L-Carnitine, Tribulus Terrestris and more… All good stuff for a person living an active lifestyle.

What I DON’T like is when a company changes a product for the worse. I suppose they weren’t making enough money with the original formula – but that doesn’t make me feel any better when I’m spending $100.00 per month on a health drink.

The original formula had 275 calories per serving. The new one has 215. Okay, not bad.. But the original formula had 0 calories coming from fat – the new one has 35. The original formula had 2 grams of fat per serving. The new one has double – 4. And 2 grams are now from saturated fat – whereas the old formula had NO saturated fat.

The original formula had NO cholesterol. The new formula has 43 milligrams. The original formula had 14 carbohydrates – 13 of them were dietary fiber. The new formula has 9 – and no dietary fiber is listed at all. Upon closer examination, they show 144 milligrams of a fiber “blend”: Flaxseed, Rice Bran and Apple Fiber. In the old formula, there were 298 milligrams of Flaxseed ALONE – 298 milligrams of Brown Rice Bran and 850 milligrams of Apple Fiber. That comes out to 1446 grams of a fiber “blend”. Wow! What happened to all the fiber?!

The original formula had 5 grams of sugar. The new formula has 8. The original formula had 50 grams of protein! Great for body builders! The new formula has 35.

I can go on and on. I’m probably still going to buy this stuff because I do like it – but I’m keeping my eyes opened for a better product.

Ya know what? If they weren’t making enough money with the original formula – if their profits were too low because the return on their investment wasn’t up to par – than why not just create a “light” version for people who don’t care (like everyone else who didn’t notice) and have a “Gold” version and raise the price for people who don’t mind spending the extra money for the best they can get?
